Guggu Thompson grew up in houtbosdorp. When she married, she and her husband bought Wegraakbosch. She began by growing apples.

Her children expanded into selling bulbs and ornamental trees, begun with a relationship between Box Thompson and a Japanese man. Clifford went on to develop Thompson’s nurery, while Box and Guggu founded Cheerio gardens.

In 1985, Nipper Thompson (Clifford’s son) and his wife spent a year in Switzerland, learning to make cheese. They brought this skill back to the farm, opening the dairy in 1994. It holds true to the traditional swiss way of making cheese, with an African twist, from hand-milking to making the cheese over a fire in a big copper pot. 

Currently Nipper’s daughter, Michele, and her husband, Ray, manage the farm.
